FREE Interactive Sight Word Reader for Holy Week

As we near the final days of Lent and the most solemn days of Holy Week, I have a very special Interactive Sight Word Reader to share with you as a freebie. My newest reader, “Jesus had a Holy Week” provides an overview of the important events and days of Holy Week: Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter Sunday.

Although the word “Jesus” doesn’t appear on the Dolch or any other traditional sight word list,  it IS a high-frequency work in my Catholic kindergarten classroom. My students read the word “Jesus” several times a week in our daily religion instruction. This year, my classroom activities during Holy Week will help my students read and write the word “Jesus” independently while they learn about the events in Jesus’ life which led up to Easter Sunday.

Just like all of the Interactive Sight Word Readers in my TpT store, students cut out and unscramble letters to spell a particular word (in this case “Jesus” – included in the packet) then glue the letters in the correct order on each page of the booklet. The pages of this emergent reader are filled with simple, repetitive text and age-appropriate graphics for students to color that depict the major events of Holy Week. Once the book is complete, it is the perfect addition to a child’s book box or daily reading homework.

The best part is that this book is totally FREE! Enter your email below to download a copy of “Jesus Had a Holy Week” for your classroom.

You’ll also want to be sure to follow my store and browse my assortment of other religious resources, all of which are freebies.

UPDATE: Protestant Version Now Available

I have a quick update for all fans that are teachers in Christian and Protestant schools. After receiving a request to make a similar version with slightly different vocabulary. Click to download the Protestant version, “Jesus is Risen!”

  1. I love your Catholic booklets. I use them with my preschool class of 3-5 year olds. Would it be possible to include a page of the cut out word where the letter were not scrambled? It is difficult for my little ones to cut and glue the individual letters. Perhaps if the letters were in the correct order, they would only have to cut around the whole word which would be easier for them. Just a thought. Thank you

  2. I tried to get the Catholic version of this emergent reader and it emailed me the editable flip book for parents night. A picture of the flip book keeps coming up when I click on the picture of the emergent reader. Tips? Thanks!

    1. Hi Emily,
I’m so sorry I didn’t see your comment sooner. I just emailed the book to you.

Hi, I'm Maria.

I’m a former kindergarten teacher turned work-from-home mom. I still love sharing ideas and resources to make teaching easier, so you can focus on what really matters in the classroom. When I’m not working on the blog, you’ll find me chasing kids around the house with a cold cup of coffee in my hand (some things never change even once you’re out of the classroom!)
