Incorporating fine motor skills practice for little learners is so important. This cut-and-paste emergent reader will strengthen that skill, as well as important literacy practice, and following directions. The perfect dual-purpose activity to accompany any literacy curriculum.

How to Use: Copy all pages of the colors book and the corresponding number word cutouts for each student. Separate book pages by cutting each 8.5″x11″ sheet in half horizontally and staple the books together for students. Print 1 copy of each full-page poster sheet and color the pictures with matching crayons. Mount on 9″x12″ construction paper, laminate, and display in the classroom for student reference.

Hang color word posters in the classroom and use the song “Color Farm” by Dr. Jean to introduce the spelling of color words. Each time a new color word is learned, distribute the new color word to students. Have students color with the appropriate colored crayon, then cut letters apart on the dotted lines, mix the letters up, unscramble, and glue letters in the correct order on the corresponding page in the booklet. The animal featured on the booklet page can also be colored to match the completed sentence.
