Time for Sight Word Watches GIVEAWAY

Have you seen these amazing watches from The Moffatt Girls? Annie Moffatt is one of those amazing blogger/homeschooler/super-moms who creates wonderful reading resources for teachers and other homeschoolers. As soon as I saw these adorable watches, I just had to have them for my classroom. I also knew that you would love them as much as I do, so I just had to host a GIVEAWAY and share these with a lucky blog follower. More on that soon, let me tell you more about these great watches…
Time for Sight Words (the Bundle) Giveaway at Kinder-Craze
Every week my students learn a new sight word and the Time for Sight Words Watches have been a fabulous (and motivating!) resource for helping my students learn to read these valuable words. I distribute the watches to students on Monday mornings and the children are invited to wear their watches all week long as a reminder of our sight word. I print the watches for the week on copy paper (four identical watches are displayed on each page that Annie created – I’m grateful that the watches are laid out to be the perfect size for young children, yet are not a waste of paper to copy).

I want the watches to last all week, and copy paper is not the most durable material so I laminate the watches for my students. One option is to have students decorate the watches first, then laminate the watches, so students can cut them out and wear them. But I I don’t have that kind of time in my day. My solution is going to seem crazy.

Are you ready?

Ok, here goes…I laminate the watches first and let my students decorate them with Sharpies.

I know. It sounds crazy, but I spent a few weeks training my kids on Sharpies and gave them a very clear explanation of permanent marker rules. At first, the students came to me and decorated the watches in small groups. After a few weeks, my kiddos were completely independent at using Sharpies responsibly.

Not only do my students and I love the watches – the parents love them as well. I received so many compliments from parents the first few weeks of using the Time for Sight Word Watches in the classroom. Everyone commented on how cute and clever they are. One parent even recently told me that she can tell the difference in her child’s word recognition when he wears the watch for one day vs. when he continues to wear the watch for an entire week at school. Today we had music class and the music teacher even gushed a little about how cute the Sight Word Watches are.

I know you are falling in love with these watches right now and I really want to share them with you, so let me get back to that Giveaway…

Hi, I'm Maria.

I’m a former kindergarten teacher turned work-from-home mom. I still love sharing ideas and resources to make teaching easier, so you can focus on what really matters in the classroom. When I’m not working on the blog, you’ll find me chasing kids around the house with a cold cup of coffee in my hand (some things never change even once you’re out of the classroom!)
