Tomorrow is Palm Sunday and the beginning of Holy Week. As my students learn about the Stations of the Cross and the very sad story of Jesus dying on the cross, I continue to remind them of the story’s happy ending… that Jesus rose from the dead!
Young students are so literal and are very concrete learners. I want them to be aware that God is always at work creating new life around us. Spring is the perfect time to draw attention to this because plants will soon form buds and begin to bloom, while many baby animals are born in the natural world around us.
I created my newest Interactive Sight Word Reader, “Signs of New Life from the Lord” to reinforce this valuable teaching point. Four of the book’s pages depict plants and animals in the early stages of life (a chick hatching, a plant sprouting, a tree filled with blossoms, and a baby calf). The final page of the book reinforces the true source of life: the Cross. This book is a great way to integrate sight word mastery and age-appropriate reading materials with Religion content.

Wishing you a Blessed Holy Week
and an Easter filled with the promise of New Life!

Thank you so very much for continuing to provide free religious materials! I teach pre-k in a Lutheran school and make use of your materials whenever I can. I especially love these emergent readers for my kiddos that are ready for learning sight words! God’s blessings on your Easter weekend!
Carol, I would love to know where you work! I, too, teach in a Lutheran school. I’m in Illinois, just outside Chicago. It’s so nice to see another Lutheran teacher out there in the blog world!
